NHS Spending On Private Ambulances Soars
Spending on private ambulance services to bolster existing NHS services has increased 156pc since 2010.
Ambulance services are increasingly looking to private ambulance companies to help deal with rising demand. England's 10 ambulance services spent a combined £57.6m on private or voluntary services - an increase of 156pc since 2010. In total, private or voluntary ambulances were used for over 300,000 call-outs, with 15pc of emergency call-outs answered by theses services.
The NHS has blamed a 'national shortage of paramedics' and stated that a recruitment drive was ongoing - although the problem would not be solved in the short term.
Private ambulances are increasingly becoming the frontline for NHS care and as such it is important they have the correct insurance coverage - before paramedics can treat the public, they must first protect themselves.
